Chu Shuzhi was going through the laborious task of matching report dates to timestamps on photographs and it wasn’t going well. He was mid-shuffle between three reports and six different pictures when the shadow of movement caught his attention.

The chore of matching was irritating enough that he couldn’t deny the faint relief he felt when he paused mid-shuffle to see who approached his desk.

“Chu-ge.” Guo Changcheng greeted when he was close enough. “Are we still going to get some dinner after our shift?”

Shen Wei's hands are cold. Fortunately, Zhao Yunlan has a plan to warm them up.

Shen Wei does not know what surprises him more, the pink sweater or the star-shaped pink hairclips on Zhao Yunlan's hair. Both, he thinks.

Shen Wei meets someone he knows but who doesn't know him. Kunlun was born as a slave, and he is very, very pretty. Shen Wei struggles with the temptation he can't simply escape because leaving him in this situation is not an option.

"Where is Hei Lao Ge?" Zhao Yunlan asks the guard as he has gone around the camp looking for Shen Wei for half an hour without a trace of him.

"Hei Lao-? Oh, you meant Hei Pao Shi Daren? I saw him heading into the forest an hour ago, my Lord." The guard bows at him, gesturing towards the forest direction.

Sitting in the armchair by the window, he turned the page of the book, paying attention to the notes that the previous owner had made on the edges. It was curious to him how one could get to know a person just by reading what they chose to highlight and comment on in the text of a work. Shen Wei had several books that had once belonged to that same person. It was like an intimate friend he had never met. Maybe that person was already dead, but that thought didn't make Shen Wei sad or happy. It was just the fortune of being human. Shen Wei didn't know if that fortune now also belonged to him. After all, part of him was human too.
