After, he found he was less hungry.
He still hungered - felt that gnawing pull deep in his chest somewhere that wasn’t quite his stomach but wasn’t anything else he could identify - but it wasn’t quite as nauseating in its intensity anymore. As if a tiny piece of that hunger had finally been satiated.

Ye Zun, after the end.

“Yunlan, I need to get ready for work,” he said, smoothing his other hand through Zhao Yunlan’s hair.

“Shh, baby,” Zhao Yunlan murmured, pressing a finger to Shen Wei’s lips. “It’s raining.”

Shen Wei needs a break, and Zhao Yunlan is determined to make it happen.

"Good. You're finally awake," someone says and all at once Zhao Yunlan remembers that he'd prefer the nightmare, whatever it had been. The panic grips his throat, warping into something that feels like terror.

He doesn't say anything, he isn't sure he could manage to say anything right then. Instead, he stares quietly in the direction the voice had come from, hoping that he might see something. Possibly something that would tell him that what he remembers isn't true. But the darkness doesn't hold so much as a hint of light and there's nothing for Zhao Yunlan to see.
