" I... can explain." the Envoy said slowly, his eyes blinking rapidly under the mask and somehow afraid. Of what? The Professor? 

Shen Wei takes a step forward and the Envoy's back slowly leans against the table. Yup, the all-powerful Black-Cloaked Envoy is scared of the sweet Professor.

Shen Wei has had A Day and needs a hug. Fortunately, Zhao Yunlan is right across the hall.

Shen Wei felt heavier when he was unconscious. The idea was ridiculous, of course. Or maybe it wasn’t. If anyone could find a way to make himself less of a burden, it would be Shen Wei.

Zhao Yunlan slapped on the light just in time to see the portal collapse in on itself, leaving Shen Wei in a heap on the floor. His clothes were scorched, some patches still smouldering, but he wasn’t doing anything to stop them burning.

The Longevity Dial energy exchange affects the whole team.

Zhao Yunlan didn't expect to get caught so he doesn't expect to get rescued either. Luckily he's as wrong about the latter as he was about the former.

Shuzhi scoffed, offended that Changcheng even asked. “Was it good for me? Is air good for you? The sun? Food in your belly? Of fucking course it was good for me. You and your silly questions. Haven’t you learned better by now?”

Zhao Yunlan rolled Shen Wei's sleeves higher to check on his wound.

Oh no.

The wound looked terrible. Terrible and familiar. There are several cuts on his arm, they are the same as those of the victims on the case.

What the hell was Shen Wei doing before he came here!?

“Yes,” Chu Shuzhi confirms, sounding not at all happy about it. “What language is that? The words are…”
He trails off, brows furrowing.

“It’s Diyu,” Shen Wei says quietly, “as it was spoken ten thousand years ago.”
