To Shen Wei’s credit, he doesn’t start writing 'Zhao Wei' and 'Shen Yunlan' on his students’ papers just yet. He does, however roam around the university and the city in general, which hasn’t happened before. When asked, he claims he does it because he is a good citizen and 'there has been a murder at DCU, didi, we should help', but Ye Zun is not buying it.

And while Zhao Yunlan began to smile a devastating flirt already readied for Shen Wei’s devastating beauty, his drunken brain kicked further into gear which caused the man’s expressive face to scrunch in a vague sort of puzzlement, “Wait a minute.”

Then he pointed his microphone at Shen Wei. “I’m mad at you!”

Shen Wei’s expression shuttered further with those words and while concern could still be seen the Professor’s only response was, “Yes.”

Hoping to learn the secret of Kunlun-jun's apparent immortality and in need of a last-minute gift, the Rebel Chieftain gives him Ye Zun, who has not yet stolen the Hallows and whose powers have not yet awakened.

Update December 11 2021: Creativity in these times is fraught and unpredictable. The first three chapters are betaed but at the moment I just don’t have the energy to engage in that process (which I normally love doing!) so from here on this fic is unbetaed. Shen Wei finds sleep elusive at the best of times. On a night like this, it’s no surprise that it slips through his fingers like the wind.

After they came through the seal and started roaming the world, Ye Zun became sick. Having heard rumours of a god named Kunlun who is generous, knows about medicinal plants, and cares little for who he associates with, Shen Wei takes a gamble and brings Ye Zun to Mount Kunlun.

Zhao Yunlan gets turned into a bear. This was always going to end up as Shen Wei's problem.

Zhao Yunlan comes home from a week away at a conference to find his place in the bed has been usurped.

Shen Wei curved Zhao Yunlan's cold hand around the Sundial beneath his own. The Hallow lit up immediately, a golden glow that came with an oppressive hum, a heavy, black energy-laced thrumming against Shen Wei's senses.

Take whatever you need, he thought. Whatever I have, just give him back.

The Hallow's power pulsed through him, through Zhao Yunlan's body, and then it fizzled out. Shen Wei opened his eyes. Zhao Yunlan was not moving. Was not breathing. Was still - dead.

Shen Wei dies in an explosion of light.
Zhao Yunlan’s life flickers out and the Lantern is lit, glowing faintly.
Shen Wei goes back. Tries again.
