A people-eating monster is just the start of a very bad day in the mountains for Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei.

Fate has never been kind, hindering one's life despite no apparent wrongdoings. Shen Wei is royally caught in the middle of such mess, which has caused him to close the doors of his heart for everyone. What happens when the person sneakily tiptoeing into his heart is the possible reason of the condition of his life in the first place?

It’s been ten years since Zhao Yunlan was planted in the triads in his father’s bid to shake their control of Dragon City. Ten years of his life he spent with his name wiped off the records as he ran around with the snakes in the dark. Ten years of his life he's not sure he's going to be able to get out of.

On the other side of the coin, Shen Wei and Ye Zun have spent ten years rising the ranks of the Dragon City Police, feeding information to the triads that kept the city on its knees. Only Shen Wei doesn't quite know why anymore.

Zhao Yunlan’s left hand reached for the decorative glass wall decor to adjust it in order to use it as a mirror and see his husband properly when a whoosh of air passed millimeters from his ear. It was only his assassin instincts that managed to save his ear (you know, the one Shen Wei kept on nibbling on last night).

“Did you seriously just throw a knife at me?! The same knife we picked on our housewarming?!” Because Zhao Yunlan always knows how to focus on the most important aspects.

Shen Wei coughed sheepishly. “My hand slipped.”

“Your hands should only slip down my pants and not on sharp objects, baobei,” Zhao Yunlan huffs in both amusement and shock.

Then with exact precision, he swiftly shot the chandelier screw on the kitchen’s ceiling.

Years before the Haixing Empire was at war with supernatural creatures, Zhao Yunlan made a promise to look after and protect a pair of twins born under an auspicious moon. He became their childhood friend and confidante, but it became a promise that he would not be able to keep. Disaster struck when rifts to different realms began to appear throughout the empire and Zhao Yunlan lost one of them.

Years later, just when things were looking dire for Zhao Yunlan and the men he commanded, a mysterious figure dressed in black appeared to deflect the killing blow in the middle of a battlefield. There was something familiar about him and yet, Zhao Yunlan could not figure out what it was.

If Zhao Yunlan had ever had plans for his life, cleaning rich people's houses to make ends meet was definitely not what they'd been. So maybe there are some upsides to suddenly being kidnapped by space aliens. At least no one is asking him to clean anything.

Shen Wei isn't the first person Zhao Yunlan has shared his bed with. Sharing this, though — this is new.

They bring back a seemingly poisoned or drugged Guo Changcheng, and Chu Shuzhi wants to lend a helping hand.

"Will you lie down?" Shen Wei's voice had dwindled to a rasp.

"Will you sleep if I'm here?" Zhao Yunlan asked. Those devastating eyelashes swept up slowly. Shen Wei's silence was answer enough, but Zhao Yunlan found himself moving, climbing onto the bed but not under the covers. Just for a few minutes, he told himself. Just long enough to feel Shen Wei's heartbeat, to convince himself that that precious rhythm wouldn't stop if he left Shen Wei on his own.

Set after episode 33.

Zhao Yunlan is pretty sure he'd notice if Lao Chu was in love with Xiao Guo.
