Shen Wei doesn’t know what makes him come inside the shop. It is not a very remarkable place, off the beaten track really, hidden in one of the small alleys of the old town. True, it is getting late and the clouds suggest the possibility of rain in the near future, but Shen Wei is not far from his home so he doesn’t really need to seek shelter right now. Still, he stops in front of the shop.

“You buying Shen Wei a kitchen appliance was already a terrible idea,” Da Qing says, with a slowly increasing look of horror. He backs away from the countertop, eyes wide. “You messing with the thing before Shen Wei gets home is an even worse idea. You should just return it and get him…I don’t know…a watch or something.”

“Yeah, because that’s romantic,” Zhao Yunlan scoffs.

Exactly how they survive is a secret Shen Wei finds himself incapable of sharing in the confusion that follows their return, as Dragon City tries to get a handle on a number of passages that have opened up between the worlds, and Ye Zun's supporters turn to violence to prevent a return to the status quo. Escalating crises barely leave time for Shen Wei to process the changes that the events in Dixing mean for his and Zhao Yunlan's relationship. As it turns out, though, open communication is an integral part of collaborating effectively to save two worlds, so they have some catching up to do.

A neighbor of the SID stops Zhao Yunlan on his way in to work carrying a cardboard box, full of kittens. She asks if the black cat with the bells collar is his. Zhao Yunlan threatens to neuter Da Qing. Shen Wei is surprised, but also the best mother material ever so he of course takes to the kittens immediately.

Shen Wei faces an old foe. The biology department panics.
