Most Dixingren living in Dragon City know him as Lan-gege, the guy who one of the first welcomed them in this unfamiliar realm and helped them get their bearings. Zhao Yunlan is very careful about keeping his identities separate, but it's all useless when the Black Cloak Envoy appears just as he is trying to evacuate a newly-manifested Dixingren from under the SID's nose.

Shen Wei closes his eyes.

Chu Shuzhi was going through the laborious task of matching report dates to timestamps on photographs and it wasn’t going well. He was mid-shuffle between three reports and six different pictures when the shadow of movement caught his attention.

The chore of matching was irritating enough that he couldn’t deny the faint relief he felt when he paused mid-shuffle to see who approached his desk.

“Chu-ge.” Guo Changcheng greeted when he was close enough. “Are we still going to get some dinner after our shift?”

Shen Wei's hands are cold. Fortunately, Zhao Yunlan has a plan to warm them up.

Shen Wei does not know what surprises him more, the pink sweater or the star-shaped pink hairclips on Zhao Yunlan's hair. Both, he thinks.

“Where is Shen Wei?” Zhao Yunlan demanded. “What have you done with him?”

“Done?” Ye Zun’s eyebrows rose. “Nothing. What would I even do?”

“I wouldn’t put anything past you. Where is he?”

“He’s… sleeping.” Ye Zun’s gaze unfocused slightly and drifted off to the side. “He needed a rest.” The dark eyes snapped back to Zhao Yunlan, sharp once more. “And I needed a word with you.”

He’s still wary of the Dixingren in his team, but the SID is facing criminals with superpowers, and he has to fight fire with fire. Not much use if his flamethrower is just a zippo, though.

There was no such thing as 'loving too much'. He was sure that he could always love Shen Wei a little more every day. For all the love Shen Wei had been deprived of for millennia. Kunlun would have lived just to love him, if that had been possible.

The first thought Zhao Yunlan has when he realizes he isn’t burning is that someone heard his desperate pleas, and he’s finally been granted oblivion.
His second thought is that oblivion is breezier than he expected, and smells a lot like old grass clippings.

Zhao Yunlan wakes from the guardian lantern to find himself in the not-so-distant past. It's nothing he expected, and better than he deserves. Regardless, a chance is a chance; this time, he's making sure everyone makes it out alive-- no matter what it takes.
