The nightmare monster had caught its prey.

“I thought we could celebrate Nianzhi's birthday!” Guo Changcheng held the party hats up as he spoke.

Chu Shuzhi just stared.

“What?”

Guo Changcheng looked down at his feet. “I thought… um… because… I dunno, it's stupid.”

“Come in,” Chu Shuzhi said as he pulled Guo Changcheng into his apartment. “Tell me your idea, none of this ‘its stupid’ crap.”

He could smell the city below, immersed in night, as if all the urban hubbub were a single entity. An entity who slept and woke up unaware of its own inner world, ignorant of the outside world. His senses were sharpening, like a sword forged slowly, immersed in fire and water and polished on stone and then again, until the blade was perfect. Until the day he reunited with Shen Wei, he was a shapeless piece of metal, the remains of what had once been a sword. Currently, he was immersed in the fire again, trying to understand the heat around him.
Everything of meaning had remained if the Ghost King and the Mountain God were still there. He simply needed to re-learn how to reach it. That which dwelt inseparably from himself.

"Zhao Yunlan...you don't live in a dormitory." A gorgeous woman with red lipstick and slightly above-shoulder-length hair tells him with a frown.

"I- what?" Zhao Yunlan blinks at them in confusion, looking back at Da Qing with urgency.

Da Qing's mouth parted slightly, staring at him with wide eyes, completely deep in thought.

Oh...Zhao Yunlan thinks he may know what happened.

"I...lost my memory, didn't I?" Zhao Yunlan looks around and the silence from everyone is enough of a confirmation on its own.
